Something about this trio speaks of that sort of decadence from bygone eras that I frequently daydream about! It's made by T.F. & S Ltd - another of the Staffordshire potteries based in Longton and is dated between 1925 and 1959. A friend of mine treated me to this and another lovely teacup and saucer for my birthday and I felt very spoilt!
I'm always surprised at how well china survives through the years - providing it doesn't meet an unfortunate demise through being dropped or knocked over. The problem there is that I'm quite (read very!) clumsy and the teacup hit the deck while I was arranging it to take a picture, I held my breath but luckily it was unscathed so maybe this one is fairly sturdy! I don't know how I've managed to keep my china totally intact to date - pretty miraculous - it's possibly not the best thing to be an avid lover of when you frequently walk (good job I spell checked before posting - wrote totally the wrong word there . . . ahem!) into doorways and can trip over your own feet.
Looking for a tea quote this week I found one I completely disagree with: 'Tea should be taken in solitude' according to C.S. Lewis, well not to be rude but while I love the Narnia books he's clearly wrong on this count - there are few things nicer than tea (or coffee - because even in England there those who don't enjoy a cuppa!) and chatter with a good friend or two.
Take care,
Jem xXx
Pop along to Miss Spenser's Blog for more teacup loving!
I can't imagine that word slipping from your mouth Jem (IF it's the word I'm thinking of?!)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful trio as usual.
Jem I have another hair brush like the one in yesterday's post...I have offered one to Scarlett and I'd love to send the other to you (it's actually more your cup of tea than the ballet one) If you'd like it, email your address and I'll post it over x
Ooooh Lovely trio today - i agree with them being sturdy, im surprised I havent broken more when ive been carting them back from the bootsale in a bag with books and glass wear. They knew how to make a decent cup and saucer in those days :o) Let me know how you get on with 'The Little Stranger' - if its any good and i see it at the boot sale i might pick it up, although will hopfully have cleared some more space on my shelves then :o) Scarlett x
ReplyDeleteLovely china. I'm very clumsy too and am always amazed when I get home with some finds and they are still intact!

Drooling for the trio! beautiful pattern and gorgeous color! i'm like you, a total klutz, my husband always said, i'm a dangerious not only to things but to myself! he's afraid that people especially his parents and my friends if they saw my bruises in arms and body might be caused by him when in fact i tend to bump things and fell down hahahaha, this is why he never allows me to do big projects or using big tools, just paintbrush and paint hehehe...I'm glad the trio is in tact!! I also love tea quotes! xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely friend who obviously knows you well, that's a beautiful trio. I'm afraid I'm another one who is always covered in bruises and forever dropping things, we have a hard slate kitchen floor as well. Last week it was a pyrex jug that hit the deck - glass flew right across to the far side of the dining room. Next house I'm getting rubber flooring...
ReplyDeleteThis set is so pretty, I adore the colours :)
ReplyDeleteBee happy x
Have a delicious day!
Lovely! A variation on Imari which was always a popular design into the 1950s. Don't see stuff made after that in Imari much though. What a neat gift! I agree...tea is lovely alone but much nicer still shared with friends!

Such pretty colors and what a gift! I have to agree that tea is always nice alone, but oh, so delightful when shared with others. My very favorite way to spend time with friends.
ReplyDeleteTea....mmm...I have a huge big mugful next to me right now. I'm not feeling well today and it's so comforting to have a steaming cuppa handy - and the pretty mug it's in helps too. Love tea, love pretty china. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend.
I just adore English china... I use it for tea and coffee.... everything tastes better from a pretty cup don't you think?! X
ReplyDeleteWell done on winning the giveaway prize! All thanks to hubbys not so nimble fingers :o) Scarlett x
