Eclectic Finds

Whitby has so many interesting side streets and plenty of independent shops selling all manner of beautiful bargains both new and second hand.  I like to visit for the historic feel of the place, the gorgeous views and to be by the sea (fish and chips don't go amiss either!) but the other bonus is the shopping.  The little oriental-type fan was 50p and came from a tiny shop decked out in multicoloured tie-dye scarves, shell covered trinkets and crystal balls that was close enough to the sea front to pick up the scent of the sea.

When it comes to purses I'll always love frame ones, my Nannie had a gigantic one with so many pockets and sections and I've looked for one like hers ever since, instead I seem to end up with the little ones that are great for change and little else.  But they still make that snappy noise I love so much and the oriental pattern on this one caught my eye, well worth the 20p I handed over!

Thank you due to Cancer Research for the next couple of lovely things I found.  Dangerous place to end up on a rainy Wednesday with money burning a hole in my pocket and my magpie goggles firmly in place but I got off fairly lightly and came away with change from a fiver.  Another sweetie dish - can you ever have too many?  Our survey says: No.  Sparkly and round for a pound!

This one caught my eye as it had a more oldy-worldy feel to it but was full of some ancient bath salts and looked as though the glass was frosted with the stopper jammed tight in sticky adhesive though at 20p it was worth taking a chance to see if it would scrub up.  The clean, shiny look of it now is testament to boiling water and a touch of Fairy Liquid - for hands that do dishes!

A lovely copy of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte was the find of the day for £2.  I'm one of 'those' people - library loving, page flipping book-coveters who can't resist a pretty version of a well worn favourite.

Silver on blue - dreamy and timeless, reminds me of some of the heavy tomes I've seen in second hand book shops at eye watering prices.

Gratuitous end paper shot.  Imagining the same pattern on indulgent silk brocade made into a quilted throw of some sort to snuggle under and read.

Hope you're all having a brilliant weekend whatever you're doing!

  14. Gosh! Prices in London charity shops are astronomical compared! Love the glassware, I'm fond of all things oriental, and the book is perfect for your part of the world. Being a Dorset girl, I feel the same when I find a Thomas Hardy.
