A couple of months ago I took to reading almost all of the posts on the Our Creative Spaces page every week, each time marvelling at how talented and crafty bloggers can be as well as how brave they are to share what they make. I'm what you'd call a quiet crafter, not tending to blog too much about what I make, but having slipped into a bit of a rut I thought the odd update as to what I'm doing/making might give me a kick!
Lucy from Being of Sound Mind recently tweeted about the rubbish mail that had landed on her doormat, I sympathised, far too many envelopes with plastic windows (bills, bills, bills) and pointless wodges of junk. Taking inspiration from Sophie of Her Library Adventures, who sent out gorgeous handmade collage postcards to lots of bloggers as part of her Postcards in June project, I told Lucy I'd send her a postcard. That spawned the cuttin' an' a stickin' and I haven't been able to stop since!
My family were always big on recycling growing up, woe betide if we chucked used cans, plastics or cardboard into the bin rather than washing and/or squashing for the recycling collection. I blame my Dad for making me keen on re-using things for crafty purposes; scraps of wrapping paper, out of date road atlases, takeaway menus, used stamps, pages from books beyond repair.
There's a bit of a theme emerging with the quotes/words I've picked to use on these cards i.e. getting your act together and believing in yourself, allowing yourself to dream and actually DOING what you love. Now if I can just take my own advice I might be onto a winner ;-)
So that's it - my first (and slightly nervous) offering for Our Creative Spaces, would recommend you take a peek if you're craftily inclined! Retro look images courtesy of Instagram, which I'd also recommend if you have an iPhone!
I must say, the beautiful postcard I received today really touched me.
ReplyDeleteI have already framed it, and I will use it as inspiration.
Little things like this mean so much more than unwrapping a generic '2 for 1' present.
Jem's timing was perfect.
