April Snow

Drip, drip, drop little April showers? Forget it. This morning I was woken by a very excited Tristan 'You will not actually believe this' he said, yanking the curtains open. In a way I didn't, there were snowflakes kissing the window pane rather than raindrops and the courtyard was thoroughly dusted in the white stuff. The wind had been so fierce in the early hours that the window in my little office had blown open and there was snow on my desk! I tweeted a few minutes ago that although I may be in the minority I absolutely love the British weather, to my mind snow in April is a little bit magical, admittedly we currently have horizontal snow due to the wind so it isn't too pedestrian friendly round these parts - but still.

I'm sure the sun will come out to play later on and we'll be left with puddles but for now I'm going to enjoy this little snowy spell, how is the weather where you are?

  1. What lovely pictures! Wish it looked as pretty where I am. It's lightly snowing but not settling at all.

  2. Oh, you had PROPER snow - white stuff on the roof; lovely! I was excited too, even though I secretly knew that our "snow" in N. Leicestershire was pretty much more sleet than snow... bonkers that we were in sandals last week! xx

  3. So jealous! We have had sun, showers, cloud and now some wind. The wardrobe compromises one has to make!
This snow surely means a glorious summer awaits (but I know sun is not your 'thing'!)

    Lovely photographs, as always.

  4. I agree - there is something magical about April snow, and about having the kind of weather we have here in Blighty. Summer one day and winter the next - life's never dull!

  5. We have a little flurry too but it is too wet on the ground for it to stick :(
Your snow really does look beautiful, although it might be because you have such pretty windows =)

  7. I couldn't believe it when I saw the weather reports for up north yesterday. I, like you, enjoy the UK weather for the most part, and a little April snow is welcome in my book. Then there are the droughts and hosepipe bans in the south. What a strange piece of land we live on :-)

  8. I love it too! There's someting really special about having such a potential for surprise weather! The snow here is pretty heavy (Leeds/Bradford) - apparently some friends of mine are snowed in, but it's just too exciting to be annoyed. Going to take my little girl out to make a snow man, since we missed out on the last lot of snow!
Also, love the photo of the cobbles - cobbles and snow are such a lovely combination (to look at, not so much to walk on), makes me feel like I'm in a Dickens novel, for some reason...

    1. I just realised that it's a roof and not cobbles! Still, it has the same effect!

  9. I can only dream of snow...we have just had our first rain in months and I was probably just as excited as you were. It has been a long hot Summer and as I dislike the heat the rain was very welcome. I love your description of "snowflakes kissing the window frame" Jem. Very pretty, as is your new blog header x

  11. Wow that's crazy weather in the homeland! It's always nice looking at the snow from the warmth of being inside but I hate going in it! I hope it doesn't stay too long.

  13. No snow here in Cheshire, but my goodness that wind was wild last night!! It's currently raining and it's gone freeeeezing so the heating has gone on.

Some years back I was painting our bedroom, it was 15th April (I remember because of a family birthday) the cherry trees on our street were in full blossom, a gorgeous pinky colour and I was painting the walls with "Japanese Jade" I remember thinking how beautiful the blossom was through the window against the pale aqua/green. As I was looking out of the window, day dreaming it started to snow!! That's the latest I've ever known it to snow, in this area anyway. Nobody went to work the next day in the whole street it was that deep!! :D xx

  17. Nooooo, no snow please, I have a flight to get on Sunday! I love it when it's just fallen, but it's such a pain to get anywhere. And I hate grey slush with a passion!

  19. Wow, snow! I remember we had snow around here in April a few years back. It is cloudy and rainy here at the moment (I would take snow over rain any ol' day).
I am hoping the sunshine will peak out a little bit over the long Easter weekend though.
    Have a Happy Easter!! x

  20. Snow often looks lovely but I just can't get over the fact that it's cold, and I don't do cold anymore. I just watched a TV programme about Scott of the Antarctic...now that really made me glad that I live somewhere warm!

  23. Gorgeous pics Jem. I am sad to say we might be seeing the last of our summer this Easter weekend but I am still so grateful for the last of it, I have really grown to love the sunshine, warmth and vibe of summer! Oh well, something to work towards is to be so abundant one day that I can follow summer as it travels the globe! Have a brilliant Easter!
