Have you ever seen something in a photo or a film that superglued itself to your imagination? When I was a kid I caught a few minutes of a Sunday afternoon movie in which a girl found a cigar box full of jewellery buried in the woods. I can't say I shouldered my shovel and got digging amongst the nearest clump of trees but I did spot a couple of cigar boxes on my favourite market stall today which'll make a good home for the vintage jewellery I picked up earlier in the week.
Bit of an odd mixture of finds this week; a Royal Stafford tea trio, a blue and white Noritake cake plate, a Royal Albert milk jug, a book on Wartime Recipes, cigar boxes and jewellery. Now I'm reading that sentence back it sounds like the vintage version of the Generation Game conveyor belt, minus the cuddly toy - but that is what tends to happen when I don't have anything specific to look for, occupational hazard of being a magpie.

Those are the best days when the finds are so diverse! Finding a box in the woods with jewelry happens sometimes when you Geocache! Saw you over at Flea Market Finds :)
ReplyDeleteJem....LOVE the cake plate!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how some images stick with us, certain imagery... i have a couple of those too that may have led to an occasional irrational thrifty purchase, but mostly just keep me looking for those special things for my home. I especially love that chunky necklace you found, just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBut what a fun week after all! Quite eclectic, but treasures!

ReplyDeleteFantastic finds and stunning images! X
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean and I love that old cigar box. Funnily enough I have a cedar wood cigar box I bought in Havana for the sole purpose of keeping jewellery in - far nicer that stinky old cigars!

The paper covering the cigar box is fab - and I hope some of your new sparklies will still be draped over the jug, as that's a great image xx

The first thing that came to mind I read this post was that sort of mobile hanging in Winona Ryders room in 'Autumn in New York'!!! I have wanted to create something like that in my future house ever since I saw it and when that movie is on television I watch it just to see that creation! Love the cigar boxes, a great way to package jewelry. Hope you are really well!
ReplyDeleteIt would be amazing to find a box like that :) I always had a dream of moving house and finding great treasures in the loft!

ReplyDeletePretty jewels - I think the idea of discovering a box of treasures is exactly what keeps us thrifting ...

Hey Jem! It's actually a Holly Hobbie cup and saucer that says 'Happiness is having someone to care for' - Aaw!
ReplyDeleteLove the cake plate!
ReplyDeleteLove all your finds, the handles on the cake plate really steps it up a notch. I really appreciate things with handles. Rhinestones are the best and cigar boxes are a favorite. I found a wooden writing box at Goodwill yesterday that was old, realize I have a thing for boxes, which I read is sexual...as if!
ReplyDeleteWill be a new follower, came from ATG, she rocks!
I am always intrigued to see what you find, because I always know it’s going to have an amazing story behind it. The cigar box and jewellery will make a perfect match, I am so glad it’s not only me who remembers the smallest of details in my mind xxx
