Peculiar weather leads to peculiar finds. My theory; when the weather is indecisive so am I - flitting from one thing to another leaving a trail of half read books, abandoned films, and semi finished makes in my wake. I'm a hurricane of nondescript.
If it weren't for the weather I'm not sure I'd have decided that a quizzical looking, white porcelain cat was an essential buy - the same can be said of the spectacularly gaudy brooch, although it looks as though it cost a doubloon or two which will be perfect for a Pirate themed wedding party I have coming up. You read it right, a pirate themed wedding party - how fantastic is that!?
China picture frames are my secret love - I know, I know - nursing home chic! I'm not a closet octagenarian I promise, just a fan of pretty florals on china. For twenty pence it was worth the risk of looking like I'd burgled a pensioner to furnish my bedroom. I regret nothing.
Period films/dramas have such an enviable selection of props, my eyes are drawn to the dressing table of whichever heroine I'm rooting for - usually there'll be a selection of pretty glass bottles and a beautiful hand mirror lying on it's surface. There comes a point where a girl can have more than enough in the way of scent bottles and trinket jars and I'm there. The era of the hand mirror has begun and I was hopeless against the seductive powers of this one!
Lockets are magic - they can contain secrets, tributes to a lost love, tiny representations of our most deeply held desires, and best of all they are worn close to the heart. Being pale I tend to opt for silver jewellery but this little gold locket cast it's spell and came home with me - next up is a search for the perfect length of skinny ribbon to thread it on.

I particularly love the locket, I've been looking for the perfect one for quite a while, but have convinced myself it must come to me through serendipity! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful finds, I would not have been able to resist the cat either! X
ReplyDeleteLove the locket - I used to have one just like that when I was a little girl. Wonder if I still have it somewhere?

Loving the cat - especially the face!
ReplyDeleteI love all these finds, couldn't possible pick a favourite xxx
ReplyDeleteWell I think they all look kinda good together so maybe the weather is your friend! The mirror is very lovely - I can just see it resting on a lovely dressing table!
ReplyDeleteOOOOOOOH! All very dreamy/pretty finds although definitely a funny mixture. I'd have said pottery photo frames were horrible until you'd posted this! Really like the way it looks! x
ReplyDeleteA particularly good haul of booty there ses I - Arrrrrr!!
ReplyDeleteI love this post. I love all these things! Particularly the picture frame, it reminds me of the one my grandmother used to keep by her bedside table with a picture of me in it :)
ReplyDeleteThe most eclectic mix of finds are often the most wonderful. I love the expression on the cats face, he certainly was meant to come home with you that day. I completely agree with the magic that comes with finding a locket xxx
ReplyDeleteI love the mirror you found - I have a heart and a growing collection of them myself! Although it probably makes me seem rather vain having so many mirrors in my bedroom!
ReplyDeleteI spy one of my favorite fragrances in your top photo & love the last photo of the locket & your green polish. Quite lovely.
ReplyDeletei love the way you write :) so graceful :) lovely finds and your locket reminded me of one my mother gave me when i was 12 which holds hers and my dad's pictures :) am your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteYou found so many beautiful things! I'm in envy!
ReplyDeleteThe cat is most definitely my favorite. There is so much character in that little face!

That locket will look great on ribbon. Am very jealous of the pirate wedding party - I'm a bridesmaid for my sister next year, I'll have to suggest it!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about checking out the props in period dramas', i frequently hit the pause-rewind buttons to have a good gander, especially if there is anything of the tortoise shell persuasion. The locket looks very similar to one myu mother used to wear, it had a picture of me as a little girl on one side, my sister on the other-I stil dont know how she got photos so tiny!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, so glad I found it!

Beautiful finds! This is my first visit to your blog ( i also took part in magpie mondays) but i really want to sit down and read more as you sound so similar to me. I too love old books and sitting surrounded by them with a mug of tea. And i love rainy days, crafting, im in my 20s and from Derbyshire too (although i now live in Leicestershire!).

I think the frame is really pretty :) so it's okay! But I truly love the mirror! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week Jem!
The cat is really cute!
ReplyDeleteYou really have a lovely collection of things there. I love lockets, there is something so special about them isn't there? Even as a child I always loved looking at my Granny's locket.
ReplyDeleteI just saw your comment on one of my posts, so I thought I would have a little look at your blog. Well I must say I have fallen in love with it!! I love the beautiful clutter! xxx

Magie x
Ok Jem, I'm with you on everything, especially period dramas and lockets (how stunning are the dresses in the series Downtown Abbey?) but I was saving my desire for certain floral pieces for when I am 70 plus!! Loved this post, hope you are really well:)
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely post, I feel all over the place at the moment as well, I just cannot settle!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of dressing tables too, my one never looks particularly nice as it always accrues post, bottles of water and other odds and ends that are not very photogenic! I am very much all over the place at the moment =( x x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, I love pretty picture frames!
ReplyDeleteOh what a beautiful post! I've seen a few porcelain cats recently and been half-tempted but none had such lovely expressions as yours. It all kind of works together wonderfully and has the makings of a beautiful dressing table arrangement!
ReplyDeleteI really love all those dainty and quaint things you collect :)
ReplyDeleteeverything is so feminine and cute! i love it :)

I've enjoyed visiting your blog and looking at your luscious photos. I can't believe it but you have the exact same hand mirror as me. I found it in an antique shop a couple of years ago.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this. It’s exactly what I was looking for!
ReplyDeleteI actually love the cat, and I like your idea of looking to movie props for decorating ideas!
