Weeds and Wildflowers

On the edge of Ashbourne is a bench with a view. T had taken me for a drive in the new car (much excitement given that we'd been without wheels since last May since T has a 90 second walk to work) and while we were wending our way down the country lanes we came across a truly beautiful spot to take a beat and literally smell the flowers. Wildflowers and pretty weeds make me incredibly happy, while I like roses and carefully selected blooms in a bouquet, nothing beats blousy posies picked in a pretty spot for me. Lazy summer bike rides and picnics spent making daisy chains and propping flowers in my hair left a lasting impression! Buttercups, Cow Parsley, heads of Elderflower, purple-hued grasses and some purply pink lovelies I don't know the name of; a happy half hour spent shooting the gusty breeze and enjoying the view. It was only when we stood up from the ideally placed perch that we noticed the bench is dedicated to Colin and Mavis Jones by their children. That warmed my heart.

Once we were home I turned the pretties we had picked into a florists nightmare; completely un-manicured and haphazardly placed into the vase, but that is the way I like them. Long live buttercups!

  1. Beautiful. There's something much more special about flowers growing wild than a perfectly styled bouquet.

  10. Aw that plaque on the bench made me sniffle a little. I hope if me and Joe have children they might dedicate something like that to us.

  11. Lovely, I like your definition of Wildflowers. Had heard that weeds are just plants that grow in the wrong place. Lovely views over Derbyshire - we live in the South of Sheffield and try and get out to Derbyshire whenever we can. :O)

  13. The bench pictured warmed my heart as well :)
I love wild flowers as well. They're so happy and pretty and they're in quite difficult places to approach at times, but still they're worth it. They make me smile with their beauty! Also, I believe these are more beautiful than the polished and elegant flowers in vases.
Have a happy day and thanks for sharing these pretties!

  14. wow. What a pretty place! I wish we had lovely places to get wildflowers here in Illinois. It's pretty much flatlands full of corn or soy beans. No pretty yellow buttercups or other blooms! I love your little arrangement, too. So gorgeous and free :)

  19. I have always been a fan of wild flowers, they are far more beautiful that ones bought from a florist in my opinion, especially daisy's, buttercups and poppies.

  21. Such a beautiful array for wildflowers! For me, just the addition of a few poppies would make it perfect, but they don't last....
